Bon Voyage! Chic Luggage for the Well Traveled!

As many of you know, I adore anything and everything when it comes to fashion.  Whether it's a sexy pair of shoes, the latest Ready-to-Wear dress, or fashionable earrings, I love researching and finding the latest and greatest!

Another favorite pastime is traveling.  I love to discover new places and trends and find inspiration for current and upcoming projects.  While I don't get to do this as often as I may like, when I do get to travel, I do it in style!

Luggage and travel bags seem too often be an afterthought.  But, there is nothing like rolling that smart new carry-on behind you as you walk through the airport!  If you don't believe me, simply ask my daughter Bella who personally chose these two stylish pieces for our trip to New York this week!

Below are some of my favorite pieces!

For the kids - or kids at heart - A New Day, Heys Luggage International

Another, slightly more grown-up design, from Heys Luggage International, Terminal Spinners.

I never thought I'd describe a piece of luggage as breathtaking...Louis Vuitton, Pegase 55

Beautiful black leather duffle from Balenciaga, Voyage 24H.

Love this bronze case from Tumi, Vapor.

This masculine brown leather duffle is simply handsome...Louis Vuitton, Keepall 55.

The molded linear accents and crisp white color make this case very mod...Rimowa, Salsa Air.

I think I audibly gasped with pleasure when I ran across this new design from Tumi, Dror.

Love this clean-lined carry on from Rimowa, Bolero Flight Bag.

For those stylish men who like to keep their personal items handy like us girls, this is a very attractive bag to have over your shoulder...Tumi, Kaden Leather Messenger Bag

And finally, I could not resist the vintage look of this Italian case...Valextra, Costa Vanity Case.

New York Bound!!!!

I'm off to New York City again and this time I have my trusty travel companion with me - my daughter Bella.  It's a girls' week and we could not be more excited to hit some of New York's most well known boutiques.  Yes...Bella likes to shop just as much as I do, if not more!

For those of you who have been to New York, I am sure you already have your favorite spots.  However, for those of you who are planning a trip there soon, be sure to check out some of my favorites...and a few new places I can't wait to visit!

At the top of my must-go-to-list is my favorite Spanish born shop, Zara International.

For those trendy and inexpensive pieces, I love to stop in at H & M. Although it may take a little patience to sift through the options, it's worth a small part of the day to visit this Swedish retailer.

I have never visited the Alexis Bittar boutique in New York, so I am making a point to do so this trip.  He started his career in 1988 selling his wares on the streets in Soho and now he has a storefront in West Village, Madison and Soho.   Lucite, crystals and gold...oh my!

While I have frequented this British retailer, TopShop, many times on the internet, I have never visited the storefront.  I plan to change that on this trip.

First, the name alone took me back to one of my favorite places in the Caribbean, St. Barthelemy.  Then, after looking at the website, I longed for the sandy beaches and salty air!  I can't wait to look through the plethora of maxi dresses and tunics!

And finally, I can not resist stopping at A Second Chance Designer Resale Boutique.  It'll be like my own personal little treasure hunt!

So, blog readers, what are your favorite boutiques in New York City? Are there any I should add to my list of must-go-to places?

Introducing the new MLH Designs Website!

I am so excited about everything going on these past few weeks!  First off, I am thrilled to be chosen as one of Little Rock Soiree's 2012 Women to Watch!  It has been an amazing honor to be a part of this dynamic and talented group of women.

I was also delighted to have once again been published in the most recent Renovations issue of At Home in Arkansas.  It is always a pleasure to have this talented group share my designs with their readers.

I have already been so blessed with many wonderful opportunities and clients these past years and have had a great run with my current brand and website.  However, with the successful introduction of my blog this year, I have decided to give my current website a fresh look!
That said....I am proud to introduce the NEW MLH Designs!

I think you guys will be happy with the changes and I have Robert Blake at Neutral Blue to thank.  He is phenomenal and has been so great to work with!

Enjoy and thank you for your continued support for MLH Designs!  To many more years with you all!

Father's Day Finds

Is it just me or are Dads the hardest people to buy for?  Maybe it's the fact that my own father is so fulfilled by the presence of his fabulous Daughter and Granddaughter *wink! wink!* or maybe it's the fact that he simply just has everything!

While shopping online for the man who has everything, I came across some amazing and inventive all-wood gadgets on Below are some of my favorite fun and unique gifts that any dad would love!

The Drop Spot is a quick place to put keys or change while his iPod or iPhone recharges. Designed by Hekseskudd from Vancouver, Canada.

The iPad writing center works with Dad's iPad and his bluetooth wireless keyboard.  Hekseskudd.

The Ambidextrous Keyboard tray allows right or left handed techies to streamline the keyboard and trackpad while hiding small essentials (like jellybeans) underneath. Hekseskudd.

For the ultimate techie dad, the keyboard tray complete with trackpad and remote is also available.  Hekseskudd.

And for the not-so-techy Dads... Like mine!

Trend Alert: Meow, baby!

I love Summer!  I recently kicked off the season by taking my daughter, Bella, on a girl's trip to the Bahamas and I am already longing to return to those waves.  One of my favorite things about Summer (besides the cold beverage) is the warmth of the rays beating off my skin.  It's like all my troubles are being replaced by a sun kissed tan!!

However, we must all abide by the two eternal rules of Summer: First, WEAR SUNSCREEN!  I can't stress this enough but won't go into the dangers of a sunburn.  Second, wear sunglasses...

Right now one of my most coveted trends in eyewear (thank you, Mad Men) is the cat eye... Need it, want it, can't have enough of it... Here are my favorites from a few of my favorite designers:

Leave it to the designers at Alexander McQueen to take the look literally.  These look like they should be on the set of Cats the Musical!

Love this color, Ametrine, from David Yurman's Floating Logo Collection

Pondichery, by Christian Dior

What? Color blocking AND cat eye? Thank you, Kate Spade.

This color of the Kosslyn style from Oliver Peoples will look amazing on tanned skin.

If you guessed that the inspiration of these Prada shades was derived from the classic 1950's automobile styles, then you are correct.

Ray Ban's transparent black style

And last, but not least, my favorite eyewear designer, Tom Ford.

Now you see it! Now you don't! Cool lucite pieces..

Lucite, a lightweight transparent thermoplastic made of polymethyl methacrylate (thank you Wikipedia), used in furniture production is nothing new.  It started in the 1960's with the introduction of the famous "Bubble Chair" by Eero Aarnio.  Still today, that chair is one of the most well recognized acrylic pieces of all time.

The Bubble Chair

I wouldn't fill a room with this material, but I love working these accent pieces into a space!  They make such a huge statement, give a modern look and are incredibly unique.

These are some of my favorites...
